Description Art Deco Owl Ice Bucket dating to the early twentieth century, circa 1920. This English Art Deco Owl Ice Bucket is formed with a large globular moulded glass body raised upon short glass feet and surmounted by a silver plated owl head. The head is softly modelled with pronounced circular eyes and a compressed crown, giving the piece its distinctive “squashed” owl profile typical of art deco novelty barware. The silver plated head is hinged at the collar mount, allowing access to the generous interior cavity. The heavy glass body is of rounded form with vertical moulded panels, creating depth and light refraction when filled. Originally intended as an ice bucket, the wide opening and substantial capacity also lend the piece to use as a biscuit barrel or sweet jar. The contrast between polished silver plate and thick moulded glass reflects the decorative domestic objects produced in England during the 1920s. About the Art Deco period The Art Deco period developed during the 1920s and 1930s as a decorative movement shaped by modern industry and changing taste. The name derives from the 1925 Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, which marked a decisive move away from the flowing lines of Art Nouveau toward stronger geometry and defined structure. Art Deco design is recognised for symmetry, stepped profiles and controlled surface detail. Natural subjects such as birds and animals were rendered in simplified, stylised form rather than naturalistic interpretation. Glass, chrome, silver plate, lacquer and contrasting veneers were commonly used to emphasise clarity of outline and finish. Why Buy from Mark Goodger Antiques? Installation Guidelines

Always make sure the wall has been wiped clean prior to installation.

Temporary installation :

3M (Picture hanging strips) or double sided tape can be used.Glue or staple picture hanging strip to the back of the acoustic panels. Because of their porous sound absorbing nature they do not stick as well to the 3m/double sided strip as the wall will.
