Now revered for making true iconic pilots watches or ‘fliegers’ they produce six watch families to an exceptionally high quality.The Mark XX was a brand new revision and successor to the highly successful Mark XVIII and to the untrained eye, you may not even notice any differences, but IWC have successfully managed to launch this new ref that is mechanically superior and arguably looks and wears more refined.Like the Mark XVIII, the Mark XX has a 40mm diameter, but it has a lug-to-lug of 49mm, about 2mm shorter than the XVIII, making for a better-proportioned watch. Less noticeable the Mark XX also shaved some thickness off the case, from 11mm to 10.8mm. The most noticeable change to the dial is that every dial iteration of the Mark XX now has a contrasting white date wheel, the hands stand out more now too, being rhodium-plated instead of matte black.One of the biggest changes is the new in-house caliber. The Mark XX features a new movement, the IWC caliber 32111 supplied by Richemont-owned movement manufacturer ValFleurier, giving a five day power reserve. The water resistance also moves from 60m to 100m.Our watch is finished with the Santoni black calfskin strap, and features IWC’s quick-release strap system, and considering this watch is only 10.8mm in height, it is an incredibly comfortable wearing watch.
